I had heard of US Christmas and that they were a "post-rock" a few months ago. While I love to listen to what has come to be called post-rock, it has gotten a little played out to me. But USX doesn't sound like a post rock to me. At many instances this CD sounds like a krautrock CD. I love it and it grows on me with every listen.
This Number None CD Urmerica is beyond awesome. Noisescapes, but a variety from track to track. I wish more noise acts would display this level of creativity with their sound. Valerie and her Week of Wonders is a Czech film from the early 70s with a cult following in its own right. I picked up the soundtrack on Finder Keepers and enjoy it and never felt like it would fit in the show. The Valerie Project does its own interpretation of the soundtrack and its nothing short of great. Padded Cell is a couple of well respected DJ types who first put together music under the Padded Cell name a couple of years ago. This track is from their first full length and an awesome slice of 80s disco-concrete. Party music for people who hate parties. Bulbs is a project featuring an ex-member of Axolotl. It comes off a bit more subtle than that band, and has a strong rhythmic component that they were missing at times. Released on a new label from Pete Swanson of the Yellow Swans, I am looking for more from these guys. I picked up the Apse CD almost a year ago on a label I had never heard of. The CD is about to be reissued so I thought it would be a good time to pull a track out from it. Rhythmic and ritual, these guys are great. Los Samplers is actually an Atom Heart project. There were many latin oriented projects that were amazing and this piece of hyper edited guitar never ceases to amaze. I guarantee someone thought their ipod was broked. Women is an act from Canada that has a unique spin on the noise folk sound of other acts like Animal Collective. The CD (already a Canadian release) will be reissued elsewhere next month and I am anxiously awaiting. I no nothing about Studio, except their album kicks serious ass. What can I say about Jesu and Justin Broadrick that I haven't a dozen times before. The new split with Battle of Mice is available on Amazon download and well worth the 3 dollars and change. I have played a track by Dino Felipe before as part of Felipe and Forte. Whereas that was a noise track, I love the lofi pop songs this demo CD has. He is a very versatile dude. Strings of Consciouness does sound manipulation with live strings. I love the emphasis on the live strings players, so I was happy to comply with their request to credit the band. |
