Ilyas Ahmed is a Pakastani born guitarist that has put out a couple of CD-Rs of his experimental acoustic based music. His latest release on Time-Lag is a dramatic step forward in his arrangements and his haunting pieces keep getting stronger. I expect a lot as he continues to release.

Tirra Lirra is a strange and abstract rock band from Chicago. I picked up Breathe Bodies a few weeks ago and it really has grown on me. They have an interesting balance between the song structures and the more atmospheric and textural pieces. Really interesting release.

A few months ago I picked up the last Sankt Otten CD off of emusic. It was really an excellent release. I kept meaning to get their latest release and would remember after rifling through my emusic quota. So I remembered this month to get the latest SO CD. It is really a growth for them. They are continuing to create their own sound out, now taking a bit more orchestral influence into the arranging. This track showcases the way the new CD takes minimal arrangements and does a lot with them.

Boris becomes more the stuff of legends with every release. I first heard Smile in its Japanese version, which is schizoid in comparision to most Boris releases, with electronic drums and sparse textures. The US version on Southern Lord is a bit more traditional Boris, but more traditional Boris is still stranger and more creative than most guitar bands.

Hexlove is the solo project of drummer Zac Nelson. He really lets his freak flag fly in this nutso solo CD. Funky, experimental and psychedlelic, it really has been one of my pleasant surprises this year.

Matmos has been one of my favorite electronic acts for years now. Their newest release, Supreme Balloon, is yet another great release. They always mix a great sense of rhythm and a unique pallette of sounds. This is their latest release and I am thrilled Drew of Matmos is very helpful in getting them on my show.

Acid Mothers Temple is one of those groups I probably play too often, but with the sheer number of their releases it is hard not to play them almost every episode. La Novia is a reissue of on of their classic releases. This 4 minute track is one tenth of the length of the other tracks but captures some of that AMT sound I love so well.

Eric Copeland is a member of Black Dice and also has recorded as Terrestrial Tones. This is his first solo CD on Paw Tracks and it is head and shoulders above his other projects. Yes it is still a noise project but with a complexity and richness that is not as easily dismissed or ignored as some noise is. Excellent work.

Un Festin Sagital is a prog/psych band from Chile with a holy crapload of members. Their CDs are all over the map. Pharmakon is from a few years ago and more recently they have released a CD on the amazing Beta Lactam Ring Records. They have several CDs of material available for free from archive.org.

The Flashback Track this week is Odd Nosdam with a track from Burner. I played this song on Show #2 and it features the amazing Mike Patton on vocals. I have played a lot of Anticon since then, at first without permission and then with. This Odd Nosdam track opened up the door to the greatness that is Anticon for me.

I know I have played a ot of Earthmonkey, a side project of Peat Moss of Nurse With Wound. I love this act so much that I think sometimes I would just be happy to play the entire Audiosapien CD for a show.

Nadja, the metal side of Aidan Baker, is another one of those acts I probably play more than I should. My friend Jeff called me last week in total bliss about a track he heard on Hungbunny and it was the Nadja track HB had finished up an episode with a few weeks ago. Nadja is just so good, I want to play a ton of it.
