One of my favorite modern acts is Black Moth Super Rainbow, Pittsburgh's psychedelic nutcases. Supposedly the Atari 2600 is heavily used on this CD and 8bit sounds are everywhere. An awesome CD from start to finish with phat beats great textures and crazy ambience.
Our Brother the Native are some very young guys that Fat Cat picked up off of their MySpace when they were all under 20. Their CD Make Amends sounds like a murky psych rock record and is all kinds of awesome. Barn Owl is an excellent SF based psychedelic band. I have only been given a copu of their Bridge to the Clouds CD (they kindly consented to play anyway), but it is really strange and piques my interest. The distance to the sound is what makes it. Mysterious stuff. The Lymbyc System CD Love Your Abuser came out last year and is awesome. I have been wanting to play a track from the new remix CD that just came out, but I haven't picked it up yet. So this week I play another track from this great CD to hold us over until I get the remixes. Nemeth is Stefan Nemeth from Radian and the founder of Mosz Records. This is his first CD by himself and it is a collection of very atmosperic and ambient music, growing out of his film score work. Excellent CD. Religious Knives is a side project of Mouthus and Double Leopards and I think I enjoy it more than either of those projects. More noise folk rock from off in the distance and it really works well. They are on Troubleman Unlimited, an awesome label that just gave me the go ahead to play what I want from their label, so look forward to more from this great label. Valet is Portland based experimental musician Honey Owens and this is her Kranky debut. A stunning mix of guitars and electronics based on lucid dreams and shamanic music, it is really an amazing CD. Excepter is an electronic hardcore band. Not in the style of DHR, but a more improv sort of style. Their new CD is on Paw Tracks and takes the aggression down a notch still leaving a crazy improv take on their electronic stamp. Axolotl is a very noisy ambient project. They have recently set up a new CD-R label called Loci and the CD this track is the first release from his new label for the Winter 2007 tour. Great textures abound. John Maus is one of Ariel Pink's posse and his CD Heaven is Real is very reminiscent of Ariel Pink, with its lo-fi pop retroisms. Great CD. Last week I played a track from Twinsistermoon with is actually a side project of Natural Snow Buildings. This finishing track is actually the shortest track from the CD Laurie Bird, that is an amazing exploration of intense sounds. |
