Opening with another track by the amazing Anticon artist Dosh. He puts a great twist on beat creation. The new CD (his fourth) might be the best he has ever done. Anticon continues to raise the bar in quality.
DJ Scotch Egg is a Japanese born producer living in England who creates tracks with Game-Boys. He ended up on noise label Load after Lightning Bolt discovered his manic tracks. The CD is excellent and now I am looking for the tracks he has done in the past. Auburn Lull is a Michigan guitar band that explores some of the same territory that Belong does, sort of an ambient/shoegaze path. This is the first CD they have released in quite some time and it is hitting on all points. Well worth the wait. Nurse With Wound have toyed with the lounge sound in the past and on this new CD they take and run with it. And it's every bit as good as you would think it would be. After Skullflower disappeared for a few years and returned, Matthew Bower has been ultra prolific both in the Skullflower and the Sunroof! guises. This release is yet another wash of guitar noise, amazing as always. I first heard Beequeen on a CD in the Mort Aux Vaches series. I was struck by the interesting juxtaposition sounds they were conjuring up. Their stuff is pretty difficult to come across stateside, but I have been picking up their stuff whenever I saw it. The new CD is on Important, thus emusic, making picking this one up a breeze. The flashback track this week is from Slepcy. When I first played this it received a bunch of feedback for it and it remains one of my favorite tracks on the Cock Rock Disco label. I recently was approached to participate in an Exquisite Corpse mix by Bazooka Joe (that should be hitting the net in the next few weeks) and this track my contribution. Great track from the Polish wonders! Seven that Spells are a Croatian Krautrock band with guest turns from Kawabata of Acid Mothers Temple. They sound a lot like AMT at points. Another great release from Beta Lactam Ring. Lithops is half of Mouse on Mars. This track came out on the CD they released for Thrill Jockey a couple of years ago. He has released a new CD on Soniq that I need to pick up. Glitchy without wome of the precious fragility of a lot of glitch. I have been a fan of MoM since they produced some Stereolab tracks and I had to track them down. I first heard of Grey Daturas just simply as a name, some Australian noise band who had done some collaboration type thing with Yellow Swans. When I saw the reissue of Dead in the Woods on Crucial Blast, I picked it up as a lark. These guys stomp. I must get everything they have done. Astral Social Club is another amazing act that just keeps being great despite their near overwhelming productivity. When you find anything by these guys, pick it up. |
